A desire for archeology Outlook on the future
03.04 > 04.11.2018
This exhibition is conceived in relation to the opening of the Musée de la Romanité (Roman culture museum) in Nîmes, scheduled for June 2018. Baris Dogrusoz, Asier Mendizabal, Thu Van Tran, Clemens Von Wedermeyer.
This exhibition will bring together four artists whose work addresses the theme of archaeology in the broad sense of the word. For many contemporary artists, researching and producing work on the theme of archives and memory is a way of questioning historical truth. To recount the past is always a form of storytelling, especially when this means conceiving a museum sequence. If archaeology is traditionally linked to the discovery of objects of different kinds (sculptures, architectural remains, etc.), what can be said of today’s archaeology of images? The artists featured here use different media – sculpture, installation, photographs and videos – which enable us to get a broad sense of this desire to look at the past in order to better understand our future. Artists: Baris Dogrusoz (Beirut), Asier Mendizabal (Bilbao), Thu Van Tran (Paris), Clemens Von Wedermeyer (Berlin).
