First comprehensive retrospective exhibition in France of this major artist. Key figure of American conceptual art, Baldessari realized since the 60 polymorphic work where dialogue of film and painting draws in both the deconstruction of the myths of art history (the vanities, the painting history, fiction) than in confrontation to American reality, especially that of Los Angeles, where he resides, the film capital. Through his teaching at Cal Arts, but also humor content in his work or his willingness to do the painting otherwise, Baldessari has paved the way for artists such as Matt Mullican, Jack Goldstein and Christopher Williams.
