This event is part of celebrations organized by the City of Nîmes at the Cinquantenaire Feria. The exhibition presented a selection of around 25 artists of works covering a period from the 30s to the late twentieth century.
The animal has always been present in art as a symbol or metaphor, but also as a kind of moral mirror offered to man. With the twentieth century, the borders are open and it seems that the profound truth of man can only be represented through the animal. The exhibition was at the crossroads of two events: the permanence of a living tradition which always appears as the celebration of a rite rather than a sport, firstly, and secondly the questioning of nature and status of the animal in contemporary society through practices such as factory farming, cloning ...
